Since the scorecard debuted in 2021, it has been an important resource for North Carolinians interested in General Assembly legislation that impacts healthcare costs and access.

It has also served as a tool to help advance policies that lower healthcare costs and improve access for consumers.

In total, six supported bills have been signed into law. No opposed bills have become law.

25 A+ graded Affordable Healthcare Champions have been crowned.

North Carolina was recently named the most expensive state for healthcare in the country. The scorecard will tell North Carolinians who is working to fix it.

The Affordable Healthcare Scorecard grades lawmakers on their commitment to healthcare affordability.

When bills that affect healthcare affordability and access are filed, amended, or voted on, the Coalition will notify legislators and coalition members that the legislation could be scored.

As scored bills are introduced and voted on, they will be published on the Coalition’s website.

Through our website individuals will be able to:

Supporters who are interested in hearing about bills when they are filed or voted on can sign up for Scorecard Alerts.

Grades will be based on many factors, including:

  • Votes on the floor and in committee
  • Bill sponsorships & co-sponsorships
  • A member’s work and effort throughout the legislative session to support or oppose efforts to lower health care costs.

At the close of the legislative session, each of these factors will be weighed and members will be assigned a grade that ranges from A+ to F.

Those earning an A+ grade will be crowned our Affordable Healthcare Champions for the legislative session.

At the end of the legislative session, the scorecard will be published and shared with North Carolinians so constituents can see who is working to make healthcare more affordable in our state.
